Kite Club moves with the wind: Lamai Beach on the east coast from December to April, and Nathon Beach on the west coast from May to October. Where to Stay: Lamai or Nathon
December–April: Lamai. Lamai Beach is a long sandy beach (about 4 km) on the east coast, with the Hin Ta & Hin Yai rocks at its south end. Lamai village has restaurants, bars, shops and accommodation for every budget, and it is about 30 minutes by car from Samui Airport. May–October: Nathon. Nathon is the island's administrative town on the west coast, home to the main ferry pier. It is quieter and more local, with guesthouses, small hotels and Thai restaurants, about 40 minutes by car from the airport and 30–40 minutes from Lamai.
The best accommodation for kite visitors is within walking distance of the current beach spot — along the beach road in Lamai during the December–April season, or in and around Nathon town during the May–October season. If you stay further away, a scooter, taxi, songthaew or Grab/Bolt gets you to the beach easily.

What to Look For When Booking
- Air conditioning — Strongly recommended, especially in the hot months of March–May. Fan rooms are manageable at night but rest quality is lower.
- Equipment storage — If you bring your own gear, ask if the property has a dry storage area or garage. Kite equipment left in a humid room deteriorates faster.
- Distance to beach — Every 10 minutes of commute adds up across 10–14 days of lessons. Walking distance (under 15 min) is strongly preferred.
- WiFi quality — Digital nomads who combine kiting with work need reliable WiFi. Check reviews specifically for connection speed.
Match your accommodation to the season. Staying in Chaweng or the north coast is fine if you like the nightlife or the quieter villages, but it adds a daily drive — to Lamai in the December–April season, and further still to Nathon from May to October. Check which spot the school is using on your dates before you book.
When to Book
High season on Koh Samui (roughly December–April, plus July–August) sees high occupancy, especially in Lamai and around Christmas, New Year and Songkran. Book at least 6–8 weeks ahead for these periods. During the rainy months (roughly October–December, November wettest) and the quieter parts of the Nathon season, booking 1–2 weeks ahead is usually enough.

Advance booking is usually cheaper in high season (December–April). Budget rooms in good locations in Lamai sell out weeks ahead, especially January–March. In the quieter months, walk-in rates can match or beat online prices.
Yes — most guest houses and bungalow operations offer monthly discounts for stays of 14 days or more. Expect 20–30% below the daily rate. Negotiate directly with the property rather than through booking platforms for monthly stays.
