Koh Samui Wind & Weather Guide
Two Kite Seasons
NE Monsoon · Lamai Beach (December–April) — the main kitesurfing season on the east coast. Typically 12–20 kn from the NE, most consistent and strongest January–March; in April the wind turns more easterly. Good for beginners and advanced riders.
SW Monsoon · Nathon Beach (May–October) — on the west coast next to Nathon town and pier. Typically 10–18 kn from the SW, more variable than the Lamai season; afternoons are usually best.
Transition & rainy season (October–December) — October–November brings lighter, variable wind. Koh Samui's rainy season is roughly October–December, with November the wettest month — the opposite of most of Thailand. On no-wind days we offer e-foil, kayak and SUP. Water stays 27–30 °C all year.
Reading the Radar
The radar loop is from the Thai Meteorological Department and updates every 10 minutes. Green/yellow returns indicate moderate rainfall; red/purple indicate heavy cells. Koh Samui sits in the Gulf of Thailand — watch for squall lines, especially during the October–December rainy season and on SW monsoon afternoons at Nathon.
Good kitesurfing: wind 12–20 kn — NE at Lamai (Dec–Apr) or SW at Nathon (May–Oct) — and no active radar returns nearby. Check live wind above before booking via WhatsApp.
