April is the final month of the Lamai Beach season on Koh Samui. The NE monsoon wind turns more easterly through the month and can be less consistent than January–March, but there are still plenty of good kite days. It is late season — hot, sunny and still very worthwhile.

April vs March vs February
January to March is typically the most consistent and strongest part of the Lamai season. April comes right after it: the wind turns more easterly and is usually a little lighter and less predictable, but good days are still common. For beginners, lighter days can actually be an advantage.
If wind reliability is your top priority, aim for January–March. If April suits your dates better, it is still a good month — just plan a few buffer days. All of December–April is kite season at Lamai; from May the school moves to Nathon Beach on the west coast for the SW monsoon.
Who April Is Best For
- Beginners — Moderate April days are good for first lessons — strong enough to learn on, not overwhelming.
- Intermediates — Enough wind on most good days for consistent sessions on medium to large kites.
- Advanced riders — Usually lighter than the January–March peak, so larger kites are needed. Lighter days are good for kite foiling.
The NE monsoon season ends around the end of April, and from May the SW monsoon brings wind to the west coast. If your trip falls in late April, check the forecast — the school may already be preparing to move to Nathon Beach for the May–October season.
Practical April Information
April has Thai New Year (Songkran) in mid-month — typically April 13–15. Kite Club operates during Songkran, but scheduling can be reduced. Book sessions before or after the Songkran dates if possible. The holiday also means accommodation prices are higher than usual around April 12–17.
April evenings in Lamai are relaxed: sunset drinks, Thai food in the village and a chance to celebrate the end of the season. Songkran water fights make mid-April especially lively.

Yes — April is a good month for beginners, especially if you plan a few buffer days. Moderate wind days are good for first lessons, and the water is warm. Book the Beginner Course (14,000 THB) and your instructor will plan sessions around the best wind.
Lesson prices are the same year-round. Accommodation can be a little easier to find than in the January–March peak, except around Songkran (mid-April) when prices and demand go up.
No-wind days happen, and April is usually less consistent than January–March as the NE monsoon ends and the wind turns more easterly. If you are visiting specifically for kite lessons, build 2–3 buffer days into your trip. On no-wind days you can do e-foil, kayak or SUP.
For a 70 kg rider: typically 10–12m on good April days, and 12–14m on lighter days. Your instructor selects the right size for your weight and the day's wind — you do not need to know this in advance.
