The NE monsoon is fully established in March, and Lamai Beach on the east coast is where the school rides during this season. The wind is strong enough for all kite sizes and usually consistent enough to plan sessions with confidence. Your instructor checks direction and strength each day and sets up the lesson area accordingly.
March is a lively month at Lamai: returning riders, students on every level and plenty going on in the village after sessions. Lamai's long sandy beach, with the Hin Ta & Hin Yai rocks at its south end, makes a great backdrop for kite photos.
March for Different Skill Levels
- Beginners — The typical 12–20 knot range is good for learning. On stronger days, beginners use smaller kites to keep power manageable. Steady pull helps with water starts. Excellent learning month.
- Intermediates — Ideal — plenty of power, consistent runs, opportunities to work on upwind and gybes. 10–12m kite range. March is when intermediate riders make rapid progress.
- Advanced — Good conditions for jumps, trick attempts, and longer sessions on the stronger days. Smaller kites on the windiest days.

If your dates are flexible, a trip covering late February into March gives you two of the most consistent months at Lamai. Early April can still be good as the wind turns more easterly towards the end of the season.
